After installing the recent Slacwkare 14.0 patch xorg-server-1.12.4-i486-1, my Xfce terminal windows lost their left borders. With a black desktop and terminal background, this makes the terminal windows merge into each other and the desktop - on the left side only.

If I revert to the original Slackware 14 xorg-server-1.12.3-i486-2 the terminal window left border comes back.

I am using the NVIDIA video card driver (because of problems with the bundled nv driver). On another PC, with intel graphics and the xorg-xserver patch, the terminal windows are OK. So it looks like something between NVIDIA, the updated X server, and maybe Xfce. I did reinstall the NVIDIA driver (version 304.88) after updating or reverting xorg-server.

I was about to post that I noticed the same problem, but that actually is not the case.

I updated to -current with the reverted xorg and then installed nvidia 304.88. I use Fluxbox with a very dark background, near black, and urxvt as my terminal. It is 6150 chipset too. After getting it all going I noted that I thought the left border was "narrow" but never paid more attention to it.

After seeing your post I started that machine again and had a look. The border is there, but not as visually pronounced as it is on my main machine with the same Fluxbox styles and Intel graphics. It is very narrow on both. But setting them side by they appear _almost_ identical. In my own case I think the visual difference is due to the color/saturation differences between the two screens.

i had similar problem on slack64-14.0 with kde, it was solved by reinstalling the driver and running nvidia-xconfig

I had a similar problem, although no problems with the actual display. A couple of days after updating the patched files I could not start XBMC. After many four letter words and serious head scratching, I finally figured out what happened. All I needed to do was rerun nvidia-switch --nvidia to restore the nvidia files. What happens to users of the nvidia proprietary drivers is some of the nvidia files are overwritten by the xorg patched files --- almost as though the user had run nvidia-switch --xorg to restore the xorg files.

If you update xorg, you will have to reinstall the nvidia blob driver - I believe that's always been the case. The nvidia driver overwrites certain xorg files.

The way the nvidia drivers are packaged in the slackbuilds.org version, reinstalling is not needed because files are renamed tp support toggling. Thus, just re-run nvidia-switch --nvidia. Those folks using the installer directly from the nvidia folks need to reinstall.

True, many other distros also offer the same thing, though with Slack, most seem to just install from the NVIDIA*.run installer (myself included).
