I hope this is the right place to post this, I thought as it might be, as although it isn't linux specific, it relates to Slackware..
I've gone and upgraded to Slackware9.1 with no problems by using the first ISO disk, but when I attempt to use the second its in old DOS Format (8 truncated characters followed by 3 letter extension, ********.*** ALL in Capitals).
Which is of course a problem as the packages are now not picked up unless I get them and rename all of them one by one to what they are supposed to be....
My question is, have I managed to get a bung ISO of the second disc twice (from two different sources), or is there something that I'm not mounting correctly when I mount the second disc? I doubt this as it doesnt matter if I emulate it in windows or slackware or burn it.
I used BitTorrent to grab the 4 iso images. Disks 1, 3, and 4 burned fine, however as you stated the 2nd one was in old 8.3 format which as you stated messes up the file/package/etc names.
I re-dloaded it from bittorrent and tried again with same results. It matched MD5 verification too.
Anyone have any info on this? or know where to get an iso image that isn't broken?
Distribution: Slackware 10.2 (AMD64 Desktop, HP ZV5120US & IBM T20 Laptops) Suse 10.1 (IBM T23 Laptop)

Same Problem
I have the same problem, and with my 9.0 file system currently down. So anyone that knows why the iso is delimited to the 8.3 format, please speak up. It would help get me out of my M$hell and back into the Slack.
Thanks,
By the way, I have downloaded the iso by the bittorrent system and from a mirror site. Both files are the same, I guess it's time to build one from scratch.

if i read right (i just woke up), this might help (maybe).
i burned 2 isos (no md5sum check) and i've been getting package errors on the kernel module package. i had to reload about 5 or 6 times to get it all through. so if you're having a trouble like that, keep trying
ps. i'm sure it's burned right because i tried burning it myself but the one i used first was burned from my friend's pc. (diff burner, diff program, diff cd). must be the iso i guess but it went through and i'm happy with it. (might've been the cd drive...)

I downloaded the ISOs from ftp://ftp.kpn.be/pub/linux/slackware/ and didn't have any problems with the 2nd disk. No old DOS format file names. Most people haven't had problems, so I'm wondering if it's something specific to your machines? Are you all setting up dual booting with Winblows?
a few weeks ago while d/ling Slackware 9.1, i read a README.FIRST on ftp.public.planetmirror.com that ISO2 of Slackware 9.1 had some problems and it was being worked out, so i dropped the idea at that time.
the file is gone from the mirror now, so i guess may be that is the problem. i have both the CD's now but no problems and yes, i dual boot.
well just finished upgrading my Slack 9.0 (now its 9.1 ) ..
anyway, I tried to install 9.1 on a different box (dev box -- just to play around ) and I noticed that there's no prompt to install KDE (on CD2) just GNOME <-- is this a new feature in Slack 9.1 ???
p/s: its nothing actually, can install KDE later, but I just wanna know ......
I think this was definately a bad iso (disk 2) that was floating around, as I ended up checking the file from three australian mirrors, all with the same problem, then went international and found a perfect copy.
If you want the quick fix (annoying though), I just got the list of the files on the cd, and renamed all the packages, theres about 20 for gnome 2.4 and 10 for KDE..
Apart from that, for any aussie's, all the Australian mirrors that I checked appear to be fine again....
