[SOLVED] slackware64-current, recently Firefox won't play most HTML5 video

Hi,

I have slackware64-current and sometime in the last couple of weeks (I guess with the Firefox 49.0 update) Firefox has stopped playing most HTML5 video. https://www.youtube.com/html5 shows that H.264 is not supported and MSE & H.264 is not supported.

I remember having to install gst-libav to get it working once before, but I have reinstalled gst-libav gst-plugins-ugly and gst-plugins-bad from SBo-git and it's still not working.

Anyone know if theres some other requirement for H.264 in Firefox 49 now?

Firefox now uses ffmpeg directly instead of gstreamer. You need to build at least x264 (IIRC, can't check as I'm using work laptop right now) and ffmpeg from SlackBuilds.org to get HTML5 video working again.

I do have x264 and ffmpeg installed, but I just ran ffmpeg from the command line and it complains about a missing library since I upgraded libwebp recently but didn't recompile ffmpeg
