Question slackware64 13.37 downgrade to 2.6.27.59

Hello folks

Is there any chance to downgrade (slackware64) kernel to 2.6.27.* cause I'm having problems with my laptop heating up much more on newer kernels (2.6.27+).

I'm using both slamd64 12.2 (with 2.6.27.59) and slackware64 13.37 (with 2.6.37.6 and 3.1.10).
With kernel 2.6.27.59 everything works smoothly, in console idle mode (without X started) fan switches rearly on (four-five times during the night), but with newer kernel it's a nightmare, fan switches every 10-15min minutes and makes me crazy (even cpu temp is 3-4°C higher compared to 2.6.27.59).

I tested newer kernel versions (2.6.38 - 3.1.10) under slamd64 12.2 but it's still the same (it heats up), so problem is definitely in newer kernel version!

Question is how to force slackware64 13.37 to work with 2.6.27.59, what packages I need to recompile??

thanks

I don't think you need to recompile anything. Besides, you can just install the older kernel alongside the one you have and see if it works. Most likely, it will.

Hi,

I would check and be certain that 'acpi' is setup properly for your machine when using the kernel(s) in question. Sometimes you may need to compile in the support for some laptops. Since you have not provided any hardware information then we are just shooting in the dark.

FYI: I suggest that you look at 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' so in the future your queries provide information that will aid us in diagnosis of the problem or query.

I tried 2.6.27.59 allready on slack64 13.37 but once X starts system freezes.
Anyway system boots, but very little things seems to work (no sound, no mouse, X causes system freeze etc.)
I re-compiled older version of udev that supports 2.6.27.* but that didn't help.

here are some hardware info:

When you say you tried 2.6.27.59, exactly how did you get the actual kernel file? Because according to kernel.org, the latest subversion of 2.6.27 was .57.

Did you compile the kernel yourself? If so, did you use the .config from Slackware 13.37?
