Slackware64 13.0, konsole and tty

Hi all,

I've got Slackware64 13.0 installed on my new box. The only major change I made was updating to the vbatts KDE4.3.1 packages. I've got a couple of minor issues:

1) When I use a konsole, sometimes things display oddly. For example when running "top" only about half the screen will show. When I try to "less" a text file I get the message "WARNING: terminal is not fully functional." Any ideas?

2) I'm trying to get my Palm TX to sync. It works as root. From past experience I know I have to add myself to the tty group. Oddly enough when I try to sync, the tty group gets write permissions but not read permissions. Thoughts?

I answered #2 for myself. Apparently I need to be a part of the "dialout" group now.

And I just answered #1 too. Something was hosed in my konsole saves. According to a Red Hat bugzilla entry I read, this was supposed to be fixed in 4.2.x. Anyway, all I did is nuke the ~/.kde/share/apps/konsole/ directory and recreate my profile. It's all better--for now anyway. Otherwise, typing "export TERM=xterm" from within konsole would fix it until that particular konsole was closed.

I'm not really thrilled with the way konsole handles profiles. If I make changes, they are lost until I create a new profile. Seems overly complicated for something as straightforward as konsole.
