After some reading, trying and alot of failures, I wanted to get my two printers working under slackware. One is a Canon bubble jet, bjc250 (I hope I have this number right... it's about right anyway
) The other is a HP Laserjet 4M plus.
The Canon will be connected to LPT1, while I want to use the Laserjet over TCP/IP.
After some searching, I was told it would be best to install CUPS, so I went there and installed CUPS 1.1.16 (then the latest, I know there's 1.1.17, and will upgrade when I have this working
I gave up trying to get the Canon to work... there's just nothing happening
And I am nearly there with the HP... There are only a few problems left with it:
(The HP is configured to print Postscript, CUPS testpage prints fine, IP of the HP is 192.168.1.200/255.255.255.0, printserver is at 192.168.1.4)
- when printing with 'lp' or 'lpr' newlines have the 'staircase effect'
- when issuing the commands lp, lpr, lpstat etc etc, I keep getting asked for a password... I doubt this is necessary...
- when I try to add the printer on whinedoze, it cannot find the driver, however when installing the printer directly under whinedoze, and not via my printserver, I can print just fine!
Anyone on what I still have to change, or do you need more information to be able to help me out?
If all is working, I'll do my best to describe how to get CUPS and all other stuff working under slackware... By the way, anyone knows why CUPS does not come with Slackware? or did I just miss it?
