I put Slackware 10.0 kernel 2.4.26 on my Dell 600m. The kernel version I have has APCI enabled to I can monitor my battery life. The thing is, I don't have the option to shutdown. Right now I'm logged in as root and I can only end the session. Where did the shutdown option go? What do I have to modify to get it back?
You can just execute su -c halt from a terminal whenever you need to shutdown, thats how I use it. I believe Dropline allows normal users to shutdown, but I don't think KDE allows it unless you get a program maybe? I don't really ever use KDE or Gnome so my knowledge of them is extremely limited.
I looked at the KDE login screen, and there is an option to shutdown, reboot, etc. I would like to shutdown while logged in, but it looks like just an extra step to do.
Logged in as a normal user? I think you could use sudo to do that. I believe thats the normal response to people who want to allow non-root users to shutdown and reboot.
