I recently had an issue where firefox (mozilla) failed to work due to a gtk error (I swear it just started happening after an ldconfig, firfox worked like a charm previously in kde). I attempted to aleviate the issue by doing a swaret --upgrade kde, which in turn wanted to upgrade to xfree4.4 so I did this as well. This did not fix the problem so I simply downloaded the non-gtk version of the browser and got it to work. Now though, any time the screensaver starts up, even in the screensaver preview window, XFree just crashes to the bash prompt with a Sig 11 error....WTF???!!!! The only thing I can think of is that I had loaded SDL librarys including sdl_mixer previously to this entire fiasco. Here is the tail end of the XFree log file in /var/log, note that there were no other errors in the entire log file and directly after this error the sig 11 error occurred.

I encountered similiar problems with swaret --upgrade and had to manually reinstall the fonts. Does anyone know exactly why it's causing these issues with xfree 4.4?
Yea, I don't know, I am useing gentoo and I did a stage 2 install, I updated the portage tree fine, and did an emerge -u world.
I think I managed to get xorg on there, but I have the same issue... it tells me:
Could not init to font path /usr/share/fonts/local
I am re-emerging xorg, I don't know why though I am getting this, The wierd thing too, when I goto my xorg.conf thing and I comment it, it gives me nothing but freazes on the bootup... can someone help that
BTW this all worked find with gnome... but since I umergered gnome and emerge kde this has been happening
