slack 12.1 behind hub won't connect on internet while slack 11 does

Hello, everyone.

I'm not exactly a noob, but I'm not far from it.

I've been reading around and found similar problems, but nothing helped me. After much experimenting and probably messing it up even more, I've just re-installed slack 12.1 on another hd and I kept my slack 11 working on hda.
I've tried before to install slack 12 and 12.1 but I can only get internet to work with slack 11. I know about the similar treads, but I really couldn't figure it out. It's one computer, two slacks. Why I can't connect with slack 12.1?

I'm really out of ideas here. So, please, if you may...

Thanks for all!

Here is my ifconfig -a on slack 12.1
Code:
root@darkstar:~# ifconfig -a

and here my ifconfig -a on slack 11

Did you configure network on slack 12.1 (looks like you didn't)? This is done either via editing /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf or by calling netconfig as root.

I did...
Several times.
I even tried to copy the config files from slack 11. (That's how I got back to re-installing slack 12.1.)

Looking at your ifconfig output it appears that the two ethernet ports eth0 and eth1 are getting switched from Slackware 11 to Slackware 12. I.e. eth0 is becoming eth1 and vice versa.

Simply edit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules to make sure eth0 is the port with the mac address 00.13.D4.62.EB.AC - the file layout should be self explanatory. Assign eth1 to be consistent as well. Then reboot.

Now your old configs should work or run netconfig again and you should be OK.

"/etc/rc.d/rc.udev restart" and "/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart" should be enough without rebooting.

Yeah - I wasn't sure about udev honoring the rule changes so to be sure I recommended a reboot - when mucking with udev I just reboot. Looking at rc.udev it looks like a restart is good to go.

Thanks guys!
It's working.

PS: I had to reboot in order to make it work...
