Slack 10.1

I saw over at linuxpackages.net that they are now taking pre-orders for 10.1. The main slackware news page doesn't seem to have any info about what is going to be in 10.1. Has anybody heard? Is Slack still going to have GNOME?

you can see all the changes that have occurred to slackware since the release of 10.0 here:

ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar.../ChangeLog.txt

you can get a listing of the packages here:

ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...e/PACKAGES.TXT

10.1 will include more updates than are in current right now, but you'll get the idea...

as for gnome, yes, it looks like it got a pink slip...

It *may* be a little while until we see Slack 10.1, as Patrick is pretty sick with a nasty bacteriological infection. News of this can be found elsewhere on this site.

I'd rather see Patrick get well right now.

That being said, Gnome *may* be gone with 10.1 or maybe relegated to /pasture?

There's always Dropline Gnome, which is a Desktop Gnome installation specifically for Slackware and it's derivatives. I've used it for about a year now, with no problems. (Yeah, there's lots of grumbling about DLG's newest version... some people are having difficulties with it)

...and probably some enterprising soul will create a "Plain-Jane" Gnome and post it up on LinuxPackages.

I think even if Patrick drops GNOME for Official Slackware, there will always be a GNOME available.
