SBo-git - slackbuilds.org git fork with patches for current

the repository addressed below is obsoleted: the new one is

http://github.com/Ponce/slackbuilds

a cgit interface (faster) is available at

http://cgit.ponce.cc/slackbuilds/

-----------------------------------------------------------

I'm done (until I start again) building x86_64 packages for my currents, now I'm trying the updated SBo-git (you can see all the patches at this link ) with sbopkg on a 32bit virtual machine.
SBo-git it's based on my sbopkg queue.
I built the above packages with sbopkg on a freshly installed current (virtual machine) patching it by hand when sbopkg stopped for any reason: on current we have a new bash, new gcc/glibc, new kernel (and a new libpng) so many slackbuild/sources needed patches to build.
Then I moved these patches on git:
- maintaining a master branch with the original slackbuilds.org repository;
- doing a branch for every package I modified (you can see them in the SBo-git's homepage, just click on "Switch Branches")
- merging all the branch in a big patch with a date tag: thanks to Robby Workman and the people of slackbuilds-users mailing list for the hints

merging has been easy, in the end: I got the commit information I need with

(I left current and master from the list )

you can use this git repository basically in two ways depending on what you need:
- if you use a lot of the packages I build, best option for you is to download a tarball and substitute it to your /var/lib/sbo/SBo/13.0 folder, then launch your queues as usual keeping the un-gpg-signed *.tar.gz when asked;
or you can try this easier way (thanks 55020):

# Repo Branch Description Tag Tool Link CheckGPG
SBo-git current "Unofficial repository for -current" _SBo git git://github.com/Ponce/SBo-git.git@current ""
Then, within sbopkg, you should go to the Utilities menu and use the Repository option to select the SBo-git repository. You can then go back to the main menu and select the Sync option as usual. Obviously, the first time you sync will take quite a long time - don't panic
- if you use just a few of them you can select their name on "Switching Branches" and then click on the commit indicated on the right: all the patched files for that packages are there, you can also download directly the *.tar.gz clicking on the file name and again on the "raw" link.

have fun!

Matteo

P.S. Obviously comments, patches, hints or whatever are welcomed!
there's also a third way to use the repo: it's on github, it's public, you can submit/fork/etc.
P.P.S. for correctness: SBo-git is completely unrelated to slackbuilds.org and therefore unsupported by it.

original post (maybe it's more useful here)

Thumbs up

Just to point out, sbopkg already has support for git repositories. So you can use the "current" branch of Ponce's unofficial repository in sbopkg by creating a file at /etc/sbopkg/repos.d/30-SBo-git.repo containing the following text:

Code:
# Repo Branch Description Tag Tool Link CheckGPG
SBo-git current "Unofficial repository for -current" _SBo git git://github.com/Ponce/SBo-git.git@current ""
Then, within sbopkg, you should go to the Utilities menu and use the Repository option to select the SBo-git repository. You can then go back to the main menu and select the Sync option as usual. Obviously, the first time you sync will take quite a long time - don't panic

Big thanks to all the people involved in this long chain of unofficial spin-offs - SBo, sbopkg, and SBo-git

tnx to you fellas for using and reporting bugs

there's only one problem with using my repo with git and sbopkg: everytime I merge all the stuff in a new current branch, removing the old, this thing don't make git happy.
it can be (I will try it very soon) that you'll have to reset the branch status in the git directory moving and deleting the old current branch and recheckout the current one
Code:
git reset --hard; git branch -M current current-old; git checkout -b current origin/current; git branch -D current-old; git checkout -f
gotta find a new way to merge on top of current instead of master but I'll look into it (sorry for being a git newbie), i think it's more logical too

updated at today: if you are using the git repository directly with sbopkg instead of getting tarballs you have to do what I posted first
Code:
cd /path/to/repo
git pull
git reset --hard; git branch -M current current-old; git checkout -b current origin/current; git branch -D current-old; git checkout -f
and you will be up-to-date

for bugs, maybe a better place will be SBo-git Issue Tracker.

updated at latest slackbuilds.org and slackware-current status.

an easier way than the above to checkout the new version from git is to issue a
Code:
rm -fR /var/lib/sbopkg/SBo-git
then launch sbopkg and sync again.

good news for who’s using sbopkg with sbo-git as a repository: now you can sync directly, with no deleting/resetting.
if you haven't cloned SBo-git on the 25-04-2010 update you have to delete/reset the branch one last time.

the gory details.
