reading cd's and location of init scripts

ok, in slack 9.1, i can mount my data cd's fine using mount /dev/cdrom (since it was already in my fstab), but i cannot play music cd's (i get a drive error response, and the options are set to read from /dev/cdrom)
also, when trying to run a program called epsxe, i try to run a cd from /dev/cdrom, but i get errors in terminals about ioctl (2,4,#) or something along those lines
furthermore, even when i try to get it to run through /dev/hdc (as it is called during bootup) i get the same error
how do i solve this?

also, while trying to install vmware, i get asked the location of my init directories containing rc.0 through rc.6
where is this directory or does slack have one named like those? if not, how should i handle that problem?

thx in advance

edit: another question, how do i get slack to recognize my dvd drive described as /dev/hdd in bootup time?

I have slack 9.1and I cannot 'mount' a music cd as well. I can certainly play the cd though, without doing any kind of mounting. If I have a music cd in the drive, I just start up KsCD (KDE cd player), press the play button and away she goes. I guess I'm a bit confused by this as I thought I had to mount any cd first. Anyway, I can play music and that's good enough.

As for the location of rc.0 to rc.6, they are kept in /etc/rc.d
