Questions about installation, use and level of Slackware.

Given the success of some much younger distros, why use Slackware?

The Slackware is considered difficult to install/use and expert level.

Hi:

Slackware can be a little hard to install but if you watch this video it will help.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnggjPFtRCQ

Also if you read the Package Management Documentation for Slackware than you will be able to install, remove, update and upgrade the system w/o difficulty.
Take your time and take notes and research what you don't understand.

https://www.slackbook.org/html/package-management.html

Good Luck

I've run Slackware since 2004. It is stable, secure, and it has a sane development cycle that meets my needs. Slackware has never failed me.

If you can understand the ample, available documentation then Slackware is straight forward to install. Slackware will not hold your hand.

Slackware expects you to read the support documentation before you attempt installation. The documentation will guide you every step of the way.

I wondered where you ran off too. What do you use pompous ninja?

Answer:
KISS philosophy. I didn't know what I was doing in Linux until I used Slackware. You learn it once & you've learned how it works for life. Its stable.

When you have time read through this:

https://docs.slackware.com/slackbookackage_management

Once you know Slackware no other distribution will intimidate you.
However, like hitest said: "Slackware will not hold your hand".

I've been running Slackware for 6 years and it's been incredible stable and very dependable for my main os.

Please cease to ask opinions on opinions as you did in this thread. This is mostly a technical forum where we try to help people solving practical issues, not a social network. But feel free to post in General or Linux General instead.

Let's focus on the 'social media chat' which OP really desires.
Can this Thread be moved to General? (Its real intent is to Chat.)

@OP, do you have access to a Computer which can run VirtualBox.org?
This way, in under an hour (for Slackware; 9minutes for DW/mll, my fav)
you can play with it, or any distro. It's exactly like playing with any 'game app'

So, let's all wait until OP lets us know if they have access to a 'PC'
(not just smartphone). Then we can ask more, like:
What is *your* computer experience, interests, goals?
How did you feel while playing in the V Box? How's your life going? School/work?
And on and on. Best wishes to all. Enjoy Life (in the VR of LQ)

Cool!!! Have you tried VBox under slackware? Does it work ok for you? (I think I've seen others run VB [guests] on Slack host)

Added: IF you have VB running on your Slack*, could you try this 7mb!!! Distro?
Do you agree it's 'amazing'? Thanks!!! (Sorry for derailing&hijacking this Thread)

More to add: the RH8 2003 book 0072226315 I just got from Library, on 2nd! page, has an "Investigating Distros" project ?2: id ZipSlack. LQ search finds: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ive-4175579974
But sadly, per wiki, PV dropped ZipSlack in 12. I want a 4+ kernel. And <1sec hardboot time.

I doubt it's a bot, but it is also a troll egg account on Twitter. Which I've blocked.
