Question about upgrading sqlite

I am trying to build and install Calibre and its dependencies on my system using their SlackBuilds.

Seems that one of dependencies (apsw) needs at least version 3.8.9 of sqlite while genuine Slackware 14.1 provides 3.7.17 version. I can upgrade sqlite to 3.8.9 version using Current repository, But I want to know about probable side effects on other genuine 14.1 packages before upgarde.
Is it harmless?

no, I don't think it's harmless: a lot of things link to/use sqlite in slackware 14.1 and they could break with the upgrade.

regarding calibre I suggest you to go for Alien Bob's package/build script (that's what I personally use)

Unfortunately Alien's package doesn't work on my system. I have not any problem regardin installing but can not launch it at all.

So which one did you install from http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/pe...uilds/calibre/ then?
And what are the errors on launch (run "calibre" on an X Terminal prompt)?
Hint: look at the content of the ".dep" file for additional packages to install.

And those package dependencies are based on a full install. So if you continue to have errors after that, you're either not installing the right version, missing some of Eric's dependencies or missing system dependencies that would be resolved with a full install.

Sorry, my bad mistake. Seems that I have to install qt5 on my system.
I was a bit puzzled, why does binary package need this heavy dependency while SBO hasn't listed it as required dependency for Calibre?

because it's calibre 2.x that needs qt5.

on SBo the maintainer decided to stay at 1.x for the moment, as sip must be updated in Slackware (see here) and most probably won't be for the stable 14.1.
