Proftpd and shell access

When I used redhat, in passwd I would set shell type to /bin/noshell or something so people cant use bash.

When I try doing that in slackware people cant login into proftpd. only if i set it to /bin/bash.

My question is how can I remove shell access to specific users but still let them use the ftp

Option 1 :
there is a proftpd option that allows users to login in with invalid shells.
Option 2:
A typical shell to use that will disallow login is /sbin/nologin. The difference is that this program actually exists.

Skip the whole proftpd and change to glftpd, and all your sorrows are gone. It has its own user and group system, so ftp users don't get any other access to the server than just ftp.

Also its unbelivebly configurable, fast and feature-rich. Simply the perfect ftp-server.

Enjoy!

And for the record, no I don't work for them, and no, I don't make any money for saying its the best ftp daemon out there. I'm just a happy glftpd user!
