proftpd and expired passwords

I have some users on my system that have their passwords expired. The thing is that they can not login using ssh, webmail, etc. but they can login through ftp.

I'm using proftpd as my ftp server. Why doesn't it know that an user's password has expired?

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
