permissions messed up after installing package

Please bare with me, I'm not even sure how to correctly ask this question or where to look in order to fix my problem.

I installed transmission BitTorrent client, downloaded from Slackbuilds.

After this, the system became unusable for a non root user. For example, if I run "less" I get command not found .
If I run "mc" I get "permission denied" .
X cant work either.

Any hints on where I should start looking?

Im using Slackware64 14.2 , fresh install.

Thank you for answering so fast.

It worked, partially. I can work now, but Xfce is broken. Most of the icons are inaccessible.

Any thoughts about that?

I think I found my problem. I made a mistake when setting up umask for users, I'm checking if this is the problem or not.

Umask for root should always be 022.
