I am running Slackware 9.1, with the Kernal 2.4.22
I have a PCI modem, I did the
# cat /proc/pci
and found out that it is detected as a Rockwell 56k International Modem
it is set to IRQ 5 and has its Memory resources stated too...
Altho when setting up my internet connection through "pppsetup" i do not know which i choose my modem as.
if i choose /dev/modem
it comes up saying that it does not exsit
if i choose one of the "ttyS0" which is for (com1) that it doesnt work, and if i choose "ttyS4" which is the first of the "pci modem" ones to select it doesnt work...
can anyone give me some advice or help about this matter
Yeah, redhat detected my winmodem (Lucent), but it couldn't support it. I've read that most usb modems are winmodems too. I bought a creative labs modem blaster for under 60 euros/dollars. There are articles on winmodems on the net, but if youre not strapped for cash, I'd go for the serial option. Or else SuSE 9.0 is out and claims to support up to 50% of winmodems.
i've run SuSE 8.0 and that supported my PCI modem fine... i just used the download from that site... altho the download i have from that sight doesnt seem to do anything. Since i'm running Slackware 9.1, I presume the .tar pack is the one i should use, i downloaded all 3 packs, but the .tar was the only one that opened, but i still couldnt get it to work
ok, now i got some weird shit goin on with my modem, i go to make a internet connection and i dont know how to make it use my modem, it says it is set to "ttySHCF0" but that is not one of the options i have to choose and when i select /dev/modem it says modem is busy
Hmmm...thats beyond me. Hopefully someone else can help you further. The likes of slackware is considered an advanced distro, certainly more advanced than me! Good luck with it, and if it doesnt work out, don't forget the alternatives I mentioned.
