You could consider installing Fedora Core 4 =) .

To install the ethernet card, you need to install the sk98lin driver. It's available at http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect...02_driver.html as well as the readme. Good luck. If you figure anything out, check my post at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=353303 , We have the same ethernet card (I have a Toshiba Satellite M45 S331)

slackware on Toshiba Satellite M45 S269---network problem

Hi,

I have just bought Toshiba Satellite M45 S269 and installed Slackware. the network is not connected. I installed sk98lin as some one suggested. Still no luck. any expert opinions would be highly appreciated.

happy new year!

johnuseast at yahoo.com

Jimmy Di Vittorio spent hours in the past two days instructing me to fix the problem. And we succeeded! Actually, two guys from computer shops who have played linux for years told me that there were no way to make internet connection working on my Toshiba.....here are the detailed steps you might want to take if you own Toshiba of my model (I'm not sure what other models would do):

1) go to http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect...02_driver.html, download the module;

2) go to root, type mnt /dev/cdrom

3) type:

# tar xfvj /mnt/dev/cdrom/install-8_28.tar.bz2

4) type:
# cd DriverInstall
# ./install.sh

5) at prompt , choose Install

6) type:

# modprobe sk98lin

7)
# netconfig
and follow instructions.

8) go to /etc/rc.d/
edit rc.modules by adding the following line at the end of the file:

/sbin/modprobe sk98lin

save the file.

9) Quote from Jimmy: "with Linux you can't give up, because there is always a way."

Many thanks to Jimmy!

John
