passwords with trailing characters

Hey guys n gals,

I've noticed something funny with my logon. Whenever I type my password, i can type a bunch of characters after it, and it still lets me logon. Like, lets say, for example, my password is: abcde.123

well i can still type abcde.123xxxx as my password and it still lets me logon. Can someone confirm if they see the same behavior on their machine? Is that the way it's supposed to work?

Thanks folks.

Murray

Are you using DES passwords? They only use the first eight characters of the password to create the hash.

Modern slackware should be using md5 passwords by default though.
