networking sluggish

just a note, slpdave, search the forums before starting a "slow network" thread. there are many fixes out there already for this. some have to do with the dns server you're using - /etc/resolv.conf and maybe try the OpenDNS service - point your router to their dns servers, and get all kinds of bonus features, kind of like using a proxy but not really. been working fine for me at home - http://www.opendns.com, free of course.

I have gotten the problem with the slow network straightened out, The modem at our office is also the DNS server. For some reason when it gave slack 12 it's address as the DNS server either slack or the modem wouldn't "reach through" to bellsouth's DNS server.

The fix was to set slack to an address in a static pool I setup for things like network printers, routers or other equipment that needs a static IP. I also put Bellsouths DNS numbers directly into slack so it goes straight to the closest DNS server instead of relying on being forwarded and everything is working perfectly. On the wired network line anyway. I have now moved onto setting up a big Toshiba network color copier/printer in slack. So far I can print test pages but I haven't been able to print more than 1 page at a time.

I have a laundry list of things to do if I can't resolve them I will search and then if no resolution...post.
