Question New pxe initrd does not ask for an ip adress.

I built on 13.37 32 bit it with :

mkinitrd -c -f nfs -D eth0 -k 2.6.37.6

I added rpc.portmap to the initrd.

I added this too, inside the initrd-tree :
echo "10.0.0.1:/srv/exports/nfs/slackware/filesystem/" > /boot/initrd-tree/rootdev

The dhcp server works fine.

Here's the tftp default config :
default huge.s-pxe
prompt 0
label huge.s-pxe
kernel /slackware/vmlinuz
append initrd=/slackware/initrd.gz load_ramdisk=1

It works to the point where the network is unreachable.

There is no network support in Slackware's initrd (the initrd of the Slackware installer of course is different). A root partition on NFS is not supported using an initrd. You will have to add the network initialization to your initrd yourself.

Ok.

I forgot to say i rebuilt the kernel with adequate support and those packages :
glibc-2
dhcpcd
nfs-utils
portmap

Anyway i suppose i have to add a dhcp client and do the request at some point in init ?
---EDIT : Mmm dhcpcd got an ip but a long time occurs before the init script continues...
With ifconfig too.
Then i got a failed to register lockdv1 rpc service (errno 110)lockd_up makesock failed etc...
---EDIT : had to use -o nolock and suppress the fsck line in /etc/rc.d/rc.S

Maybe should i just uncompress your initrd and take init if it's a text file ?
---EDIT : Nope, it's a link to busybox.
BTW, how can we get the sources from the installer's initrd ?

Thanks.

The initrd.gz is created from the directory tree /boot/initrd-tree. The init script that is executed on boot is "/boot/initrd-tree/init". You can edit that and run "mkinitrd" again, which creates an updated initrd.gz including your modified init script.

Just unpack the initrd you find in the isolinux directory, like this mirror: http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackwar...nux/initrd.img
The installer files will mostly be contained in a directory "usr/lib/setup".
