My laptop's CD drive is broken, so I'd like to install 12.0 on it via NFS. I'm following Eric's guide to installing via PXE. This was written for 11.0, so some things have changed, but I've managed to find my way through so far. Right now, I'm at the "Creating an initrd.img" section and have extracted the image with

gunzip -cd /mirror/Slackware/slackware-12.0/isolinux/initrd.img > /tmp/pxe/initrd.dsk.

I have created /tmp/pxe/initrd as well. When I try to mount the image with

mount -o loop,ro initrd.dsk initrd/,

I get "mount: No such file or directory". That's the entire message. The working directory is /tmp/pxe and both initrd.dsk and initrd are present, so I don't know what the problem is

Any ideas anyone?

It seems I was left with a cpio archive, so I extracted the contents of it with "cpio -i -F initrd.dsk". Hopefully this works!

Some things have changed since 11.0.. so you would be best to just use the initrd.img that you will find in the Slackware-12.0/usb-and-pxe-installers/ directory. You will also find up-to-date instructions for pxe booting there.

Another way would be to use this tutorial by Janux_NET. I've looked through the tutorial and nothing jumps out at me. I will step it to find out the results.

The loop device is a cheap install!

I got it working and now Slack's running on my laptop again .
