NetworkManager ipw2200

Hey there,

I've recently installed slack 12.2 and configured my wireless drivers. My WiFi is Intel 2200BG and I've installed the ipw-3.1 firmware.
The problem I'm having is related with NetworkManager. It detects my lan card and it connects to the network through it but it always shows me "device not ready" on the WiFi section.

I have set up all of the params in the WiFi section and I have added a wifi connection but still no progress...

When I start networkmanager with --no-daemon it gives me some errors:
Code:
root@localhost:/# /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon
NetworkManager: <info> starting...

Does anybody have an idea what the hell is wrong with it

Slackware really isn't NetworkManager ready.

Perhaps try wicd instead. You'll find it in the /extra directory

Thank you for this reply. Wicd actually worked better than NetworkManager.. Though I liked that it was automatically connecting via cable/wifi
Hope they make it better in future

Thanks again!
Best wishes,
me

I have Salix (supposedly 100% backwards compatible) and I replaced wicd (default) with NetworkManager from the Gnome Slackbuild Project. It works well, although I've had some issues getting it to start immediately upon logging into XFCE.

I did this These are instructions for Slack13 though and with no experience prior to 13 I can't tell you what the differences might be.
