mount:block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected,mounting read-only
not knowing what this meant
i went ahead and typed in:
ls /mnt/cdrom
and got:

great, u are actually looking at all the available files and directory in cd2. This is what you should do next:
cd slackware, you will see another sub directory named kde, then you cd kde. when you see something similar like below, u type pkgtool. pkgtool select install from current directory in pkgtool, then hit install throughout the whole process of installing kde.
Originally posted by SykoMachine i finally got it installed
now
when i try: unmount /mnt/cdrom
i get :unmount: command not found
also
how do i boot to kde?
it should be umount /mnt/cdrom, not unmount /mnt/cdrom

if i am you, i would have reinstalled the whole thing one more time and select all the packages available in the 2 cds. That's is the best way for all we newbies. Why dont you try that out? It could be a lazy way out, but it sure can solve the problem, if you really want to learn the stuff, you can do it when all your stuff are up and running. Sorry, this is the best i can think of now.
