Hi all,
I have a Slackware 12.0 install that I use to play videos. When installed on a Shuttle pc (AMD Sempron 1.6ghz) it all works fine, but when the same install is run on an AMD Geode all-in-one 500mhz board, mplayer crashes with an error stating it was compiled for a different cpu. The exact same problem happens when run on a VIA EDEN MII board. Both of these systems use different video cards so I don't believe that is the issue.
I always thought Slackware was compiled for 486/586 to allow it to run on almost anything, which everything except mplayer does. And Mplayer seems to be compiled with the run-time detection of the CPU.
I am to the point that I figure compiling mplayer again to match a lower cpu type is probably the easiest way - but I can't find the configure options used for the official Slackware mplayer install. Any ideas? Or any other reasons why mplayer is crashing out on me? Thanks in advance.
I thought mplayer is not in included in Slackware 12? It should be a 3rd party package. Where did you get mplayer package? You should ask the person who distribute this package and check the CPU flag it is being used.
MPlayer is not included in Slackware, so there is no guarantee that it will run on all of the same hardware that Slackware itself supports.
As already suggested, you need to use the slackbuild and compile it yourself. I would suggest that you either target the build for something generic, or the specific CPU you want to run on (if GCC supports that as a target).
