I do not think it's related to the hardware I'm using. If it's a rather rare bug, the most reasonable cause I can think of would be the dvd. If it works with other dvds, it's definitely an issue with the used dvd(s). For what it's worth, I use an Asus VX1 with Slackware 12.1, custom kernel 2.6.27.4 and nvidia-driver 177.80.

I'm not sure these are DVD video disks related problems. I tested MPlayer with a few brand new DVD video disks and two different DVD-ROM drives and these problems persisted.

During my tests I found one movie with which MPlayer starts with subtitles in dvd:// mode -- it's ``Bonnie and Clyde''. Even that movie causes problems in dvdnav:// mode.
