In my Slackware re-installation, I chose not to install GNOME, since it was no longer maintained, and also because I have tried using GNOME and would always get a kbd error dialog when starting GNOME, however since after choosing not to install GNOME, obviously Totem isn't there anymore, and I have been using that to play videos under KDE, so my question is, where is the package under the GNOME folder on the second disc that contains Totem? I would also like to give MPlayer a go, however I can't find that anywhere, and I link to it would be appreciated as well. Thanx
Haha, great, actually I will just give MPlayer a go, and hopefully if I like that enough, I just won't bother with totem, I just wanted another alternative to xine, since to me xine seems a bit bulky with its UI, and wanted something more simple

Totem is just a front-end to Xine. There are a ton of frontends to choose from. http://xinehq.de/index.php/releases . Take your pick. I really like the Xine-ui. I recomplile with LiRC support (just install LirC and run the SlackBuild, it gets autodetected) for my MythTV.

The mplayer package requires a few extra codecs to be downloaded
Only if you want to watch movies that need them. Xine (and therefore Totem, Kaffeine, etc) uses MPlayer's extra codecs, too. It's right in there documentation. They tell you to go get the codecs from Mplayer's website. http://xinehq.de/index.php/faq#QUICKTIME

I need mplayer fow wmv files, but prefer totem for dvds
So this is wrong. If you are only using mplayer for the codecs, just skip mplayer and grab the codecs only. I always just put the codecs in /usr/lib/codecs and symlink it to /usr/lib/win32. When you use packages, it's a pretty good guess that they will look to one of those two locations for the codecs.
Xine, regardless of frontend, is super slick for DVDs. First off, it has menu support. Doesn't seem like a big deal, until your watching on of those movies that isn't in English. Changing the language without menus can be pretty frustrating.
Another thing I love about Xine is that it will spit out a 90% complete LiRC conf file for you. Just pick wich buttons you want to do what, 5 minutes later you are using your remote control.
I use mplayer for everything though I'm not that good with the DVD utilization. Is there anyway to skip from chapter to chapter? The only way I know of is by using the arrows (1min and 10 min skips).
Also when I play DVD's I use the command "mplayer dvd://1". That starts the DVD from the beginning. Is there anyway to start it from a specific chapter? I tried using "mplayer dvd://3", but that wasn't working.
