Mouse cursor corruption problem xfce Slackware 64 bit current (and older versions)

Slackware 64 bit current (also had problem with 13.37). I have an ATI 5970 video card and two monitors. When moving the mouse from one monitor to the other, about once a day or so the mouse cursor will become corrupt on the primary monitor only. It always works fine on the secondary monitor, it is only the primary monitor where it will become corrupted. Once this happens, I have to reboot. Stopping the x server (exiting xfce) and going back in does not fix this. Switching user accounts, running kde instead of xfce, no joy.

Updating to current ATI driver doesn't help, neither did using older version.

So, my question - how to troubleshoot this? I'm not quite sure what causes it, let alone what to do about it. It's a pain because when it happens, sometimes it is so bad it is not usable and rebooting (closing everything I have open, saving everything I'm in the middle of) is the only option.

Huh. Does turning off/disconnecting one of the monitors have any effect?

Did that. Did not help, mouse cursor still corrupts. Interesting enough, with xinerama enabled, primary and secondary desktops switched monitors, and the corrupted mouse cursor followed - with primary desktop on the other monitor, the corrupted mouse cursor went to the other monitor. Weird. But alas, xinerama does not appear to fix the corrupted mouse cursor...

Hello,

you could try to add this to your xorg.conf in the device section(s):
Option "SWCursor" "true"

This seems to help sometimes.
