Mail being echoed to terminal

I am setting up a slackware 10 box as a email/SquirrelMail server. When ever I run fetchmail manually my terminal window is filled with received emails. Do I have sendmail setup wrong? I don't even know where to look to resolve this problem. Thanks for any help.

Below is some text from my terminal

Read fetchmail man page I think you'll understand what happens there.

Reading the fetchmail man page

I read the entire fetchmail web page, to no solution found. I attempted "fetchmail --nosyslog" and I still get the same thing. Don't think it has anything to do with fetchmail because when I use pine to send my self an email I get similar results. A message pops up on the terminal and says:

New mail for rovitotv@paul has arrived: R RelNotes
----HER CMDS >[ListFldrs] N NextCmd K KBLock
From: rovitotv@paul.rovitotv.org
Subject: test me
this is a test message.

Might have something to do with sendmail? or syslog? But I am not familar with either of those. Please help mail being echoed to my terminal is driving me insane!

I also did these commands

export MAILCHECK="no"
export MAIL="/leave_me_alone"

thinking this would turn mail notification off!

thanks.

Hi,

What are your outputs for :

echo $MAIL
echo $MAILCHECK

Try :
export MAIL=/var/spool/mail/rovitotv

Steps I have tried so far

My variables are set as follows
$MAILCHECK=60
$MAIL = /var/mail/rovitotv

I have tried the following
0) export MAILCHECK="no"
1) shopt -u mailwarn
unset MAILCHECK
2) export $MAIL = /mailbox_not_here (attempt to fool it by giving it a fake mailbox location)

None of these listed methods is turning the stupid mail notification off! Every time a mail comes in I get the following:

Does anybody know how to turn the notification off? Thanks for the help.

Problem SOLVED! No more mail notification.

This wise and excellent "Vernon William Wenberg III" solved my problem. The program that produces those nasty email notifications is called biff. To shut biff down put "biff n" in your .bash_profile or .bashrc and all is quite. Thanks for the help everyone.
