Logitech K400 not working on Slackware64 14.1

It seems the Logitech K400 (USB wireless keyboard & touchpad) doesn't work with the Slackware64 14.1 kernel.

The keyboard works on an older kernel, on another distro. So it's not a hardware issue.

This thread highlights a solution in moving to the kernel in 'current':
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...40-4175510841/

...however, I really don't want to do that. I use multilib, and I fear it may cause other issues. Everything else works very well.

So why is the 14.1 kernel (3.10.17) not working with this device? What driver does it require? Could I just compile that specific driver without upgrading the whole kernel?

Additionally and otherwise, is there a guide for updating the kernel alone. The poster in that thread does not mention how he updated kernel to current.

Thanks in advance, I can normally find workarounds for ethernet and wifi cards etc. But this one has me stumped.

I recently bought Logitech K430 wireless keyboard and that was the first issue I encountered with my stable 14.1 box. Apparently some RF patch which was added in kernel 3.10.x broke it.
I compiled my own kernel 3.14.17 on my stable box and voila, it works smoothly now.

@PrinceCruise: Thank you very much for the github patch link. Using a new kernel is not an option for me, since I'm deploying a corporate rollout to many machines. I need to use the tried and tested official kernel (huge) since the userland is tested against it.

However, patching the existing 3.10.17 huge kernel is a good clean solution for me. Replacing /usr/src/linux/drivers/hid/hid-logitech-dj.c and hid-logitech-dj.h and recompiling the huge kernel did the job nicely for me.

Note that this kernel regression seems to effect all Logitech K400 and K500 series RF keyborad/mouse/touchpad combos. Whilst K200 series and others seem unaffected.

For others, I have made detailed steps below (next 2 posts). Please follow exactly and carefully since it will overwrite the existing (working) kernel.

**NOTE** I removed the GPL license heading at top of hid-logitech-dj.c file. This was so it would meet the 30,000 characrter post limitation. Please add it back from the original file if you are going to re-distribute. If only for personal use, you don't need the license comments.

1.) replace the file /usr/src/linux/drivers/hid/hid-logitech-dj.c with the below contents:

3.) Build the patched kernel. Replace -huge- with -generic- if needed.

Code:
cd /usr/src/linux
make mrproper
cp /boot/config-huge-3.10.17 .config
make -j5 bzImage modules
make modules_install
cp arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-huge-3.10.17
cp System.map /boot/System.map-huge-3.10.17
4.) If needed, re-link the System.map and vmlinuz in /boot:
Code:
cd /boot
rm System.map
ln -s System.map-huge-3.10.17 System.map
rm vmlinuz
ln -s vmlinuz-huge-3.10.17 vmlinuz
5.) Update lilo, just in case. It's normal to see exactly one warning. If you see errors, backtrack and fix before rebooting.
Code:
lilo -v
6.) Reboot into the newly patched kernel!
