Localhost not working in Slackware 13.1

I just setup a dual boot on my laptop with Windows 7 and Slackware 13.1

I've been using Slax for one of my web programming classes and I got tired of booting from a live CD all the time so I decided to just use Slackware. When I try and connect to the localhost page, I get a cannot connect error page. Why?

Because the webserver isn't installed/started/configured?
Because there is a firewall?
...

Kind regards

Probably because you haven't enabled the Apache server in the system setup. If you haven't installed Apache in the setup you'll have to do that first. This involves installing the package from the installation disks or possibly setting up slackpkg and installing it via the internet. I'll assume you have it installed.

The the easiest way to run the server, (if you have installed Apache - which you should have), is just to run the following:
Code:
su -c "chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.httpd"
su -c "/etc/rc.d/rc.httpd start"
Then browse to http://localhost and you should get the "It works" default Apache page. This will make sure it runs now and at each reboot from now on.

Oh yes and welcome to LQ.

That did the trick, thanks! I'm almost completely new to the Linux thing.

Glad you got it fixed. As you are new to all this you may wish to check out The SlackBook (known as "The Book") and The SlackBasics Book along with the Slackware-HOWTO on the installation disks. Also - it will help others if you could mark the thread as [SOLVED] - (I think that's in Thread Tools on the page but I can't really remember). Another also, onebuck has a very useful sticky full of links at the top of the forum threads list (this forum main page). You've certainly picked the right distro to learn a lot about Linux, (and the best in my opinion).
