I just had to step into Winblows that time for argument sake. To see if i could run a chkdsk on an external hard disk and see if my cd-rewriter could pick up the higher speed cd-rws that i got.
Well it ran the chkdsk, actually it was norton disk doctor. and it did detect a failed file transfer, something that i tried to fix with fcsk but it didn't want to seem to work.
Anyway, i attempted a giga-byte transfer of a game i had on the main hard disk to the external maxtor under 98 and it seemed to be doing ok when it just kinda shutdown....? On top of that I wasted time going into Win2k and signed on as an administrator with that when it complained that I didn't have sufficient authorization to add a printer or external hard disk.... very good, I'm wondering what kind of virus is circulating the net now given that it's basically a brand new Win2k install and I hardly ever go there anyway.... for obvious reasons....
So anyway, I'm back here in good old Slackware and you know, it's like night and day. Even as I type, Linux is moving that gigabyte directory, not a problem....
With Internet classical music playing in the background and i'm thinking i'm going to setup the screen save and just catch some zzzzzz's!
One more thing, there's always something new to learn with Linux. Take for example Fluxbox, as much as I enjoy Gnome, I'm delightfully surprised to find Fluxbox to be so damned quick! Pros & cons to everything I guess!
Yea, I hear ya... And what's up with "insufficent permissions" anyway... I get that ALL the time in Windows.... I run as Administrator ALL the time as well..... Thats Windows for ya..... I have a couple things I've been wanting to do in my Xp partition for quite awhile now but it never lets me.....
i've been wanting to do a dual boot on this computer with 2 harddrives(yeah just want windows not to try to touch linux<3 linux) so when i get my harddrive if maybe you guys could help me get this setup that would be awesome or if it is even possible?
Sure, when you're ready, feel free to pop back and ask questions - I'd start a thread if I were you. However, I would suggest you search at google first, there will be plenty of documentation on installing on a sytem with Windows.
