LILO install failing, Boot failing, but Installation fine.
Ok.. I am sure these questions are answered somewhere, but I can't quite get an understandable answer..
I am trying to install slackware 9.0. The installation seems to go fine, but when I reboot it just goes to a flashing cursor in the top left corner. Now I have tried to install this distro probably 10 times in the last two days, changing options and the such to no avail. This morning I noticed that when trying to install the LILO booter its failing.. Is this my problem? I don't know if I am not giving enough information, and obviously am new to linux and would appreciate the help.
Can you post your '/sbin/liloconfig' file, let's have a look.
{edit}
Unless your using the MBR(master boot record), in which case it wouldn't exsist. :/
Take a look in '/usr/doc/Linux-HOWTOs' or /usr/doc/Linux-mini-HOWTOs'
Their pretty easy to follow.
So I can still get to this file even though I am not booting? I assume that I use a bootdisk and the mount the /dev/hda1? I am sorry, but I sorta am jumping into linux, and am not going to give up.. So any help is appreciated.
Basically, I don't know how to get to that file.. I have put my boot disk in and I get a boot prompt.. What do I do from here?

I apoligize, i wasn't in the zone as it is. Boot with the floppy you may or may not have made during installation, then take a look in the directory's i listed in post 2, they explain it all, if i was to see your 'liloconfig' (if you configured LILO to use the root partition(only if you made it bootable)), i could diagnose other problem's.
:) jumping into linux is the way i did it, and if jumping is your thing, speaking from mild experience, is the best way to go.
Ok.. I am going to reinstall totally first.. I remember in just trying something different I didn't make my root partition bootable, which was why the LILO installation failed the last time.. I forgot about that.. But I will still have the problem. So, I will re-install everything.. Make my root drive bootable, and start this process over again.. And will hopefully get to that file, and post it.. Give me about 2 hours.

Unfortunatly i never encountered problem, but i did find this
on www.linux.com/google, it's kind of hard to find the post in there, they speak of using a
rescue disk, i didn't make on when i installed, nor do i have one now, and should probibly look into making one...
Mabey someone else can jump in at this point.
Ok.. I did a full re-install.. This time I used /dev/hda2 as my root directory with about 19gigs free.. I chose i.root for my kernal, which is what i used to get into the setup.. I used the expert mode for LILO config and chose my /dev/hda2 partition as the directory with the linux os.. I chose 5 seconds before LILO boots linux.. Now..
When I reboot with nothing but my hard drive I go straight to a flashing cursor and no response. I get no information prior to that.. Nothing loads.. No error messages.. I then put in the boot disk I made during installation, and just hit 'enter' when the prompt came up. It actually loaded linux from /dev/hda2 because the new name showed up at the prompt..
So.. Why without the boot disk does the os not load or try to load?
