hi, i'm trying to set up a LAN messenger system without any server or internet connection using Akeni LAN Messeging system. I've Slackware 12.1 installed. But the LAN messenger is not working giving an Error" Cannot open socket 1234" . Can anyone help me to install the LAN messenger and to solve the socket problem.

I actually just run the win version via Wine.
But if you only want to do messagin then the site there does provide xipmsg (which should run directly) and a java version .. stay away from the gnome version.
Perhaps your traffic is still blocked by the firewall.
The default port xipmsg uses is apparently port 2425, so for this program you need to open port 2425 for UDP in your firewall.
hi, i've opened the port but still the same result. i've
installed the xipmsg,
then opened the port 2425, and
also used the command xipmsg -broadcast 255.255.255.255 -bogus_fif -debug n -disable -name entity-name -port 2425
Is anything else have to done?the name place is not coming and the writing place also. pls help.
thanks for the wine suggestion, i've tried that and now my LAN ip messaging is working. But one problem is there if i'm trying to send some attach file the execution is stopped. Can u suggest what may be the problem?
