messaging

hi,

I got this pc without display etc. As I don't know when it is shut down (it's a pc which you need to turn off manualy), I want it to send a message to my pc. I was thinking of messaging via msn/aim/icq/jabber. Maybe one of you knows a better solution.
How can I do this?

The pc is running in text mode.

Thanks for any help/suggestions!

Mark

That won't really be possible since the network services are likely to be stopped before the system is ready to be powered down.

Hi,

I might be misunderstanding, but you want it to send a message when it is safe to powerdown? or do you want it to send a message letting you know it is alive? I don't quite follow, but then again I am a bit thick

Both . When it starts up, and when it's safe to power down.

A message just before power down is also OK, I just want to know if it "understood" my shutdown command.
