Konsole quotes
each time a console is opened , there is always a quote like
"Of course power tools and alcohol don't mix. Everyone knows power
tools aren't soluble in alcohol ..."
-- Crazy Nigel
samurai@hideyoshi:~$
my question is this, is there any way to put in your own quotes? is there a file that the konsole program invokes for the quotes, or is it within the program, and not possible to put in your own??

The program that spits out these loveable gems is called "fortune". You can type "fortune" at any command prompt to get one if you're in the mood.
I don't know of any way to add your own, but then again, I never had any interest in it. I'm pretty sure that the fortune program calls its fortunes from a text file somewhere. (either that, or fotune is one big script) If you can find it and edit it, you can probably put your own fortunes in.

I checked man fortunes and all it really had was different commands to call on fortunes, didn't really say much on how to put in your own quotes... but...I think I found the files responsible for the quotes, but there seems to be more than one file, and each file follows a .dat file with the same name, and im assuing the .dat file is just binary , so i could probably put in my own quotes, by just editing the text files, but im not sure if it would work if i added a new text file, without a .dat file corresponding to it.... this is speculation for now, i do hope someone with more experience sees this thread and offers some more insight
samurai@hideyoshi:/usr/share/games/fortunes$ ls
fortunes fortunes2 limerick-o startrek zippy
fortunes-o fortunes2-o limerick-o.dat startrek.dat zippy.dat
fortunes-o.dat fortunes2-o.dat linuxcookie unamerican-o
fortunes.dat fortunes2.dat linuxcookie.dat unamerican-o.dat

Check thei file for more infos on the file format:
/usr/share/doc/packages/fortune/Notes
---
for me (suse 9.1) it works like this:
1) create "$HOME/myfortunes"
------------------------
Linux rocks !
%
Windows SuX0R5!
%
Linux is not The Answer. Yes is the answer. Linux is The Question.
-------------
2) run "/usr/sbin/strfile $HOME/myfortunes $HOME/myfortunes.dat
3) now "fortune $HOME/myfortunes" reads quotes form $HOME/myfortunes

*edit:
in slack 10 your fortune pages are in /usr/share/games/fortunes and the link above tells how to add your own.
