Kernel Compilation Problem 2.6.7

Hi all,

I'm currently running Linux Slackware 10.0 with kernel 2.4.26.
I have downloaded the latest kernel source 2.6.7.
I have successfully compile my kernel using
make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install.

I have configured my lilo in order to choose which kernel to load at boot.

Everything works fine except i canno't see the boot process and the final
prompt when running at level 3.

I'm totally blind.

The better thing is, i can remotly access to my Slack, and when
Trying to run the KDE Windows Manager without seeing anything,
The display become up, and XFREE is very running.

Can someone help me in solving this problem ?

Theanks for you help,

Best regards

Yes, this is a common mistake when compiling 2.6.x kernels. I would suggest reading the compiling 2.6 kernel guide up top or use the search feature for the forum. In particular you should read post 16 (first post on the second page) of the mentioned "Kernel Compile Guide for 2.6.0". it explains how to prevent/correct this.

Look at your .config and make sure these features are enabled :

CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_PCI_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FB=y
CONFIG_FB_VESA=y
CONFIG_FONTS=y
CONFIG_FONT_8x8=y
CONFIG_FONT_8x16=y

Also, keep your old image and lilo settings for your 2.4.26 kernel, so you can boot into it if you have further problems with your 2.6.7 compile.

Thanks for you help,

I check what Cedrik said and i have disable all what was not needed in the same section of .config file.

Recompile the kernel and the modules and it's now working very well.

Thanks for you help,

Best regards,

Ultrix
