Question kdm cannot login to KDE, but gdm and xdm work fine??

I'm running Slackware 9.1 and have upgraded to KDE 3.2.3 from KDE 3.1.5.
I used the following packages: ftp://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/kde/st...Slackware/9.1/ (found on kde.org)

I originally had some libraries that couldn't be found, but I fixed that problem, and now I have one strange issue:

When I try logging in with kdm, it allows me to put in an username and password, but after I press 'login' it just blinks and sets me back into the username password entry screen! I have tried this as both a normal user and root.

I can get into KDE 3.2.3 from both gdm and xdm, but I really want to use kdm--so that my wife can turn her computer off without using an xterm (she also likes the auto-login feature of kdm).

Does anyone know what is wrong?

thx in advance

Once it also happened to me, when I was upgrading KDE while KDM was working. The safest way is to upgrade KDE in text mode (without X working).
To solve your problem you have to regenerate KDM config files with a command, sorry, but I don't remember what command (it happened to me some time ago).
Try "google" for it, that was the way I found solution.
Perhaps it was kdm-config with a parameter? Check it.
