kde issues with a new user
here's another one from me...
i just added a new user renee and tried to log into kde desktop with the new account. the kde splash screen hang on 'initializing system services' for 30-40 seconds and then went to a black screen with a mouse on it.
can anyone tell anything from these .xsession-errors?

good suggestion but still nothing... kconf-update is consuming 100% of all 4 cores while it is trying to 'initialize system services'...

KDE User management?
Also to which group(s) does the new user belong to? You can check that by typing:

I had
exactly the same problem, but mine is related to my graphics card.
I have an Nvidia GeForce 8600, I have the solution for that but it can also happen that is not your graphics...
Did you do a xorgconfig or xorgsetup before starting the X server?
in my case if I use the standard "nv" or "vesa" drivers the X server boots fine, when i install my Nvidia drivers ("nvidia") I had troubles with loading the modules of the card and it was stalling my server at "starting system services".
if you have an nvidia maybe i can help you if not, we have to see what is causing it...

cool... interesting info... i have nvidia 9600gt and it seems to be the graphics problem. i have just created a new user and that user could not log into kde (2.6.30.1 kernel with 185.18.14 nvidia drivers). i then rebooted into 2.6.27.7 kernel and reinstalled 180.29 nvidia drivers and the user logged in with no problems. this user can now log in while the system is running 185.18.14 drivers.
so it seems that there is an issue with creating the 'kde profile' let's call it with the new nvidia drivers... is this a fair conclusion? i don't like the idea of booting into the old kernel for the first login for a user...

I am pretty convinced that it is indeed a problem with the "NVIDIA for Linux-x86 185.18.14" drivers because thats the one I use.
Here is my conclusion...
The drivers first have a problem while creating the ~/.kde ~/.qt folders and files.
And it also has troubles loading the modules.
What i recommend you to do if you still have troubles or whenever your x server wont boot because of any corrupted file or missing lib (it has happened to me several times):
first uninstall your Nvidia drivers.
go to your root folder.
Do that only if you dont have any kde settings saved that you dont want to lose.
Run xorgconfig and choose to enter to the card database.
pick 19 which is NVIDIA's "nv" driver.
Startx.... this should enter directly to your desktop and create the .kde and .qt folders totally fresh.
If this does not work, something is up with your general configuration.
Now, go out of the X server, install 185.18.14 again, allow it to modify the xorg.conf and go and manually add the modules that are missing... or simply copy paste my modules. (those are all the normal modules but uncommented, for some reason 185.18.14 comments some modules that it happens to be that some computers need it to run).
After that try to run the x server again.
At this point NVIDIA does not have to create the new .kde and .qt folders, so it will not complain about that, it will also not complain about the missing modules, so luckily you should have your X up and running with a Nvidia splash when it is starting... at least it worked for me.

yeah... that's all cool... but i don't want to do that if i add a new user. i might just recompile 2.6.27.7 kernel with pae and run the older 180.29 nvidia drivers.

yeah, thats the other side of the story.
in my case i havent compiled kernels up to now (new to this stuff) so i chose the other way. Both should work the same.
