Different user logins, different issues

Greetings All:

I'm running Slackware 10.0 with Dropline Gnome installed. When I login, I get sound, no problem - regardless of desktop (i.e. Gnome, KDE, etc.) When anyone else logs in, they get no sound. The error message when one tries to open a mixer is "Sorry, no mixer elements and/or devices found." My account and theirs all have the same group memberships so I don't believe that it's a permissions issue. I can su and run alsamixer just fine from these logins but we still have no sound.

Along the same but unrelated line, when I logon to Gnome, I cannot use the
Code:
nautilus --no-desktop --browser
command with good results. I get the "file manager" window with no functionallity. Basically, when the window spawns, it doesn't populate or even completely draw. When I force quit, a regular nautilus window opens. Now this only happens on one login and not on anyone elses so I can assume that it must be one of the gnome config files specific to my login - I have no clue where to start looking though.

You might want to verify that the other users who want sound are part of the "audio" group.

Audio group membership had no bering on the sound. As stated previously,

"My" login is a user account just like the others.

Problem Solved

Well, I backed up my data and did a fresh install of Slackware 10.1 and this seems to have solved the problem. Since Gnome doesn't seem to want to work properly "out of the box", I then immediately ran the Dropline installer for slack 10.1 and all is good now.
