I am having some problem in starting kde, after fresh installation of slackware 10. After booting when i do startx, it takes me to gui that comes before loading kde and there a box comes that says something like could not start kdeinit. check your installation, and then it exits and takes me back to black cursor screen where there are some messages like
Code:
kreadconfig: error while loading shared libraries: libkdecore.so.4: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

kdesplash: error while loading shared libraries: libkio.so.4: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libkparts.so.2: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.
i tried the solutions told earlier in this thread as follows :

1. installed kde again from slackware cd-2
2. installed X again from slackware cd-1

3. still it didnt work so i installed all the packages of x using
cd /mnt/cdrom/slackware/x
installpkg *.tgz

4. after looking at those missing files error, i tried to find them for example i did whereis libkparts.so.2. instead of getting the path to that file it just returned the name libkparts.so.2.

i assume this shows the links are broken, it would have fixed it when i installed X again, but it didnt.

any ideas what might be wrong?

Thanks.

What kde packages did you install?............It looks like you didn't install kdelibs......

Besides X, you need to install qt, arts, kdelibs, and kdebase at a minimum......Plus others, depending on what functionality you want, such as kdemultimedia, kdenetwork, etc.........

Great.....

If kdelibs was installed before, then somewhere along the line your lib symlinks got hosed.........This has been known to happen from time to time......
