k3b doesn't find my drives

Running -current (13.37) 32 bit. When I start k3b I get a message
No optical drive found.
K3b did not find any optical device in your system.
Solution: Make sure HAL dæmon is running, it is used by K3b for finding devices.

Hald is running -

Code:
root:/dev# ps -ef | grep hal
82 2187 1 0 12:42 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/hald --daemon=yes
root 2257 2187 0 12:42 ? 00:00:00 hald-runner
root 2261 2257 0 12:42 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-input: Listening on /dev/input/event0 /dev/input/event1 /dev/input/event2
root 2273 2257 0 12:42 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: no polling on /dev/fd0 because it is explicitly disabled
82 2276 2257 0 12:42 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-acpi: listening on acpid socket /var/run/acpid.socket
root 2995 2816 0 13:06 pts/1 00:00:00 grep hal
and udev has created my devices -
Code:
root:/dev# ls -l cd*

My id is in the following groups
Code:
gid=100(users) groups=100(users),7(lp),11(floppy),14(uucp),17(audio),18(video),19(cdrom),83(plugdev),93(scanner),102(source),106(ifp),108(vboxusers)
This happens using an ordinary user account and root.

I've been investigating this some more.

The cd and dvd drives do work if I manually mount them.

Something else which may be connected is that the KDE removable device notifier does not notify me if I insert a cd or plug in a usb device.

OK. Finally found the culprit ..... me!

By running hald in verbose mode I found an error that libdevmapper.so was missing. After installing this all is now working.
