ircd is online but web, email, bittorrent isnt.

Hi all, i just shutdown my box to remove a HDD, turned it back on, started the IRCD ok, irc is working fine but thats about the only thing that is. I cant access any web sites (server not found), my email (failed to connect to server pop.blabla), bittorrent (all unreachable). Im guessing other things i havent tried wont work either.

Any ideas

dave`2005,

Sounds like you don't have a network connection. Did you check the cable?

what does
Code:
ifconfig

That was the 1st thing i did, check the cable

The box with the problem is dual boot with xp, and everything on there works fine When i load linux and try to ping www.google.com i get

#1. What does

Code:
$ ping 72.14.207.99
Say?

#2. By looking at the output of your ifconfig command, does the data there look correct to you? Check with /etc/resolv.conf to make sure name servers are specified and what not.

IRCD = IRC Server, are you sure you're talking about this and not an IRC client? Also, it seems you can't make connections to the outside, starting a program on localhost doesn't "break the rule" in any way. Can people from "the outside" connect to your IRCD?

pinging that IP gives me
Code:
connect: Network is unreachable
The ifconfig output seems normal to me. Yep an irc server.

Checked out resolv.conf and there was a typo (not by me heh), and the nameserver was the IP of the box in question so i changed it, and ITS FIXED

Thanks alot for the help guys
