I have just installed Slackware 11.0 on my desktop computer and have difficulties connecting to the internet.
When I write ifconfig eth0 it shows this:
Code:
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found.
Right now I am writing from my laptop computer with Slackware 11.0. And here everything works perfectly.
Have anyone a clue how to fix this problem?

I would see if the module for it is loaded. Use the command ' /sbin/lsmod '.
Also run the command ' dmesg ' to see if was seen during bootup.
Then run the command ' /sbin/lspci ' to get a good descibtion of the card.
I do not know what this card takes to work. Look through the HCL section here at the top or to the right. Might be listed there. If not search google can help.
BTW - to automate this so you don't have to modprobe at every boot, as root create a file called /etc/rc.d/rc.netdevice containing that command and make it executable.

Btw, how did she/he know that the card namned or called (whatever) e100?
Is there any command like lspci that shows all the cards that is installed and there "modprobe name".
