I'm trying to install VMware-server-1.0.3-44356.tar.gz (official vmware tarball) onto a Slackware 12 machine. I installed vmware on Slackware 11 (not Slackware in vmware) many times before, no problem. Now I get this:
Code:
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl

Trying to find a suitable vmmon module for your running kernel.
None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your
running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for
your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes]
Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
kernel? [/lib/modules/2.6.21.5-smp/build/include]

Do I have to try a different kernel? Honestly I don't want to mess with it, slackware kernels work nicely out of the box.
Ideas appreciated.
