Installing KDE 4.2 on Slackware 12.2

Hey everyone, I am trying to get KDE 4.2 installed on Slack but am at a loss as to how to do it. I have looked at the KDE website over and over again but there does not seem to be a very clear cut way of installing KDE 4.2. From what I can gather so far I have to install it from the Slackware /current directory? I would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

yes you need to update your system to current before you can use KDE 4.2 (unless you want to compile it yourself) the easiest way to do this to use slackpkg or you can download a current ISO burn it to a dvd and install a fresh copy of current. here is a good FTP that has current ISOs. ftp://ftp.slackware.no/pub/linux/ISO...ent-ISO-build/

How exactly do I upgrade to current? Do I just load the burned DVD with the current iso into my drive and go from there?

You can download a -current iso, burn a dvd (in this case I'd recommend getting a DVD-RW media) and boot from it and install it like any other version.

Secondly, you can download the -current via rsync to a local mount point, boot up and instruct the ncurses installer to get the sources from that mount point.

Thirdly (and it's the way I recommend most) you can do it with slackpkg. How? Chances are that you already have slackpkg installed (if not get it from here: http://www.slackpkg.org/).
Install it and edit the /etc/slackpkg/mirrors file and uncomment the line that has the address to the -current server you like the best. Then it's just a matter of simple steps and (depending on your connection and systems specs) some time. The steps are to be run as root and are as follows:
Code:
# slackpkg update
# slackpkg install-new
# slackpkg upgrade-all
Good luck!

I think that I will stick to the cd install. I used slackpkg before and it completely screwed my Slack install. Thanks for the info though
