after logging in as root

type startx

but you should create a new user soon so you don't log in as root all the time.

you can do that in a console by typing the command adduser

cool thx, it works! im going to keep root user only, im going offline in a week. so i don't have to worry anybody hacking my machine. i boot from floppy, so i hope i wont need to reinstall no OS. got xpp, slackware and room for redhat, mabe i download mandrake 9.1 rc2. looks like i'll have alot to mess around with!
only problem i got is the resolution. trying to fix it. none works so far. to small or to much to the right side of the screen.

mandrake 9.1 (stable) just came out. You may want to check that out.
