You found nothing in -current about systemd because there is nothing to find.

I suggest you reconsider your base assumption, that systemd is necessary. It simply isn't, narratives to the contrary notwithstanding.

As it stands, only OpenRC has a better chance of being added. OpenRC oddly is only an init extension system. It's already in SBO and only requires replacing the current bootscripts package while utilizing sysvinit as a control unit only. Other inits like Runit and s6 require a lot of custom scripts, systemd requires a massive system rebuild (reference Dlackware), and others like GOD, epoch, nosh, etc. are unknowns at the moment.

There's no real need to replace sysvinit in Slackware. Effective supplementation of the bootscripts and assistance utilities already has proven useful and minimal into the system, but replacing the core init program itself requires more work to be done that often is problematic, entangling, and invasive.

really dunno if anything changed, but I am afraid you forgot what's written in the post linked in the second one of this thread.

I'm only referencing the availability of the work. Nothing is even absolute.

The base assumption here of OP is, systemd is so important that Slackware must have something for it in the changelog! He's an optimistic person, I'll give him that.

Regards.

@ponce, so from the post you gave us, that is what I make of the oracle:

- systemd is here to stay
- frequent changes to init system are undesirable
- Slackware is switching to systemd

That kind of explains two years without actual progress in the release front.

I prefer this explanation than pondering about Slackware withering.

You guys on the Slackware Team have the patience of a saint. And I'm not talking about the release cycle.

When and if are when and if, and when and if are when and if, they will be when and if, and nothing more than when and if. That should explain it in the utmost detail of the when and if of when and if. The only variable is the if and when against when and if, and if if and when are calculated against the when and if then the if and when of when and if shall determine the if and when down the the nanosecond of the if and when of when and if. The devil is in the details, but it's all elementary level math.

Please note that pig + catapult does not count, nor does pig + aeronautical vehicle. The pig in question, mind you, must have grown wings and must be, in natural order, able to fly under it's own natural power... at least according to Encyclopedia Britannica.

We here at LQ do not condone catapulting pigs, nor the usage of trebuchets with pigs. We do condone the gift of bacon readily, and bacon cheeseburgers are more than welcome. Applewood bacon is preferred. Turkey bacon... and ye shalt be locked in the pillory and shalt endure the tossing of 100 jalapeno pepper pies.

You certainly don't speak for me there, though I would be eager to try a jalapeno pepper pie.
