HP Photosmart & Gimp

I have a HP photosmart C5180, it prints color via a USB cable and is also a copy machine and scanner. I am currently using the HPIJS and HPLIP drivers along with CUPS to work.

Through XSANE I can scan wonderfully.
Through firefox, I can print web-pages.
Through any KDE program, I am able to print color images or text, either KVIEW, KPDF, KWORD, etc.
But I would like to be able to print from GIMP. Certainly the capability is there. I just have not gained the right configuration to do so.

I was using the GIMP-PRINT plugin for gimp 4.2.7 as is stock from slackware 11.0, but no luck.

Then as the HPLIP website suggested ( http://hplip.sourceforge.net/howtos/printing.html ), I downloaded and installed 5.1.2 GUTENPRINT, which is the new replacement for GIMP-PRINT. I made sure to print via postscript level 2, but still I have no luck. Any ideas from the crowd here?

Searching here found this post. Many more simliar post from the search tool.

And I have used this fix using the pdd file from cups and not gimp.
Code:
For OfficeJet 1150	command lp -d OfficeJet
		        PPD file /etc/cups/ppd/OfficeJet.ppd

For Photosmart P1100	command lp -d PhotoSmart
		        PPD file /etc/cups/ppd/PhotoSmart.ppd

You did a better search than I was able to. I found an appropriate ppd file (Photosmart 7500), but I hope a better one exists.

Why are you using "the HPIJS and HPLIP drivers" ? HPIJS has been renamed to / replaced by HPLIP. HPIJS is obsolete ...

Well, mostly correct - in Slackware -current, the HPIJS package has been replaced by the HPLIP package.
However, HPIJS has actually been merged into HPLIP upstream.

Yeah, but both packages exist, and both are installed. And when I had said HPIJS I had actually been thinking HPIOD anyway. HPIOD and HPLIP are the two names that show up when my computer starts. And I just wanted you to know they both had been started, and they allowed all the other print functions to work.

I did get GIMP to work. I think its rather odd that it doesn't get along with the HPLIP very well and that it needs to use its own print ppd files.

You have to removepkg hpijs before installing hplip, otherwise you can get conflicts and printers refusing to print (at least that is what happened to me). Probabably the same with gimp-print and gutenprint.
